With the introduction of TOTO's new S7A and S7 washlets, there's been a lot of questions around what TOTO actually changed with this new generation. The S7A and S7 washlets are TOTO's latest and greatest bidet seats that are meant to be "the best bidet seats money can buy".
The previous generation TOTO S500e & S550e Washlets have been TOTO’s flagship bidet seats and some of the best selling models on the market for about 5 years running. But, being that TOTO is regarded as the world leader in bidet manufacturing, complacency is not part of their DNA. That is why TOTO is introducing their newest flagship bidet seat models; the Washlet S7 & S7A.
Let’s take a deep dive into what exactly the differences are between the outgoing and incoming flagship bidet seats and what new features and tech are included in the Washlet S7 & S7A.
The TOTO Washlet S7 is replacing the TOTO S500e Washlet
The TOTO Washlet S7A is replacing the TOTO S550e Washlet
Note: The only difference between the Washlet S7 & S7A is in the inclusion of an automatic open/close seat & lid on the Washlet S7A model.
Main Differences Include:
- A sleeker, slightly lower profile (4.1" vs 4.5")
- Updated horizontal remote control design with tactile buttons
- Larger main functional buttons
- Some additional fine tuning settings available
- Minor updated features like a power deodorizer
- Seamless seat design that eliminates dirt collecting gap

Updated Lid Designs: Contemporary or Classic
The new Washlet S7 and S7A have new, sleeker lid designs compared to their older counterparts. They match beautifully with many modern toilet bowls Just as with its predecessors, the Washlet S7 and S7A are offered in a contemporary lid design and a classic lid design. The new contemporary lid has a more rounded design compared with the previous generation. The classic lid style maintains a beveled edge which helps it to blend in better with more traditional types of toilet bowls.
The Washlet S7 and S7A also have an impressively thin rear height of just 4.1” at its thickest point. This makes the pair some of the slimmest bidet seats available on the market today and almost 1/2" lower than the previous models.
TOTO was also able to incorporate a seamless design that eliminates the dirt collecting gap that was prominent on the S550e and S500e Washlet
Updated Remote Control Design
The Washlet S7 and S7A also introduces a new horizontal style remote control with larger function buttons. The buttons are tactile buttons instead of the touch capacitive type from the previous models. The back of the remote also features brand new fine tuning settings that allow users to more precisely control certain settings on their bidet. Unfortunately, the new remote does not feature any sort of screen illustrating which settings are activated. The lack of a screen helps with battery life but has the downside of making fine tune changes to settings a bit more difficult.
